In 2017, the Mission to Seafarers celebrated 100 years in the Heritage-listed building at 717 Flinders Street, Docklands. The enchanting Arts and Crafts style design offers a unique venue for functions and events of all styles and sizes. With full bar facilities, commercial kitchen, catering options and beverage packages, all within a short stroll from the CBD and with easy access to public transport, it’s the perfect venue for your event.  

Not-for-profit organisations receive 20% off venue hire, and Crew 717 Members receive 10% off (and free BBQ hire).

Suitable for the most elegant of events, the Celia Little Room can accommodate up to sixty people for a seated dining event, eighty guests for a cocktail soiree, and up to seventy people for a theatrical performance. The room opens up onto the Spanish-style historic courtyard for guests to enjoy as either an extension to the function room, or for drinks and alfresco dining. The Celia Little Room also offers an alternative boardroom style space and is equipped with AV projector and large screen.

Rates: $325 half day/$650 full day

Full size caterers kitchen also available $275 per half day.


Sun bathed and full of rustic charm, the Courtyard has played host to an array of live music events and celebrations and is perfect for stylish BBQ functions, casual drinks or as an addition to any event in The Chapel or Celia Little Room. Up to 120 guests can comfortably mingle in the Courtyard. We also have a tranquil cottage garden with a lush lawn, small stage and well-established plants to add to this beautiful outdoor venue. 

Rates: $485 half day/$970 full day with exclusive use of the Garden, or Celia Little Room available on request.

The Norla Dome is a feature of the heritage-listed building and, originally designed as a gymnasium for seafarers, is perfect for exhibitions and public events. The original exposed brick forms the surrounding walls, while the towering concrete dome creates a ceiling with great impact.  

Seating up to 100 people for a comfortable sit down dinner and 150 guests for a cocktail style event, the magnificent dome measures 17m in diameter and is a unique and impressive space with natural lighting that makes it a space that people come to experience, and not just look at. Live music and site specific performances or installations work especially well in this one-of-a-kind extraordinary space.

Rates: $600 half day/$1200 full day

The Chapel is open for daily meditation and prayer and also lends itself to boutique weddings and celebrations, creative performances and exhibitions. Comfortably seating 100 guests and opening onto the Courtyard, it offers easy access via the  garden, and beyond via Seafarers Bridge over the Yarra River leading to the convention centre.

Rates: $440 flat rate/Courtyard, Celia Little Room and Garden available on request as a package.


The recently renovated Main Hall is a multi-use space that can accommodate up to 300 people (standing) for a live music performance or celebration, 100 for a sit-down dinner, and up to 150 for a seated theatre style performance or conference. Easy access to all facilities, including bar and full-sized kitchen.
